ActiveRTS
In our many projects and engagements with the different parties involved in trading over the years, one application has shone through as being used more than any other: Excel. Even when a sophisticated system such as RTD from Real-time Systems AG (RTS) is in use, somebody, somewhere in the organisation will be using Excel to provide exactly what they need: risk may need to be managed over more systems than just RTD; perhaps a source of prices for calculations is required; perhaps details on trades are required; or there is a need to insert values back in to RTD from a trader’s own model.
In the past, users may have manually keyed information to perform these operations. This was an error prone process but necessary at the time. ActiveRTS eliminates manual keying and provides a fast, efficient link into Excel for real-time calculations using exchange data. This can lead to the removal of a more costly source of pricing data and save significant quantities of money by eliminating errors and saving on personnel.
ActiveRTS retrieves information from RTD and makes it available via a COM interface in Excel, Access and any other application that can use COM, including C or C++ programs.
- Retrieve trades, prices (including open/high/low/close), market depth, skews, rates, volatilities and orders, all in real-time.
- Automatic augmentation with contract, trader, user and account information reduces effort to get meaningful results.
- Library of examples help fast track development.
- Calculate and send back your own theoretical values allowing use of custom options pricing models.
How does it work?
A COM object is installed on to each workstation requiring access. There is no server component as the COM object connects directly to the RTS server. ActiveRTS can be controlled using Visual Basic from Excel, Access or any other language or application that can use COM objects (e.g. C++). Requested data will automatically update Excel in real-time. Customers also require access to the RTD API supplied by RTS.
What Data is Supported?
The list currently includes: trades, prices (including open/high/low/close), market depth, skews, rates, volatilities and orders, all in real-time. These can be automatically augmented with contract, trader, user and account information, saving significantly on effort.Any data can be sent back in to RTS, including trades, orders and theoretical values.
Other Options
It is not necessary to start building your own solutions in Excel to solve complicated problems, particularly in the areas of settlement. Green Hat Consulting have a number of powerful solutions that can solve these problems, see our website for details.
